I have a Sony DCR-IP7 that iMovie just won't see.

I know this was listed as compatable when I bought it.

http://www.apple.com/imovie/compatib...camcorder.html

I have tried 3 different computers running 10.2.4.

Ideas?

It was never listed as compatible.

The IP7 uses MPEG2, which creates two problems:

1-There is no standard format to stream MPEG2 over firewire connections

2-None of the apple editing apps support MPEG2 editing. This is not a shortcoming on Apples part so much...at the time there are very few applications to edit MPEG2, Win/PC included. Sony does, however, make an editing solution for your camera that, I'd assume, only runs on their PCs.

Step 1: Buy a nice normal mini-DV based camcorder (screw this microMv crap) that has analog pass-through. Something like a dependable Canon Elura/Optura/ZR series or Sony TRV series.

Step 2: Output it analog via your hunk of @&!*'s supplied "to TV" connectors to a female-female RCA relay to the NEW normal mini-DV camera's analog input.

Step 3: Connect the NEW nice normal mini-DV camera via firewire to your Mac.

Step 4: Set-up iMovie or FCP or FCE or Avid or whatever it is you use to capture the video.

Step 5: Sell your over-priced media-format-challenged and codec-challenged non-conformist microMV hunk of @&!* to someone who wants it and get your money back somehow.

Step 6: Buy a shuttlepro media controller from the money you saved by selling your over-priced hunk of @&!* and replacing it with a BETTER and most likely CHEAPER mini-DV universally-accepted codec-using camcorder.

Step 7: Enjoy a life of long-term compatibility and happy editing!
