I want to make a Flash movie where the user flies through a 3D model. I've seen these done before, but I don't know what kind of software they use. How do I do this? Can I export from Lightwave, or do I need another 3D program?

Don't know exactly what you are talking about, but Carrara ( www.eovia.com) has a flash plugin, Vectorstyle

Unless its a cheesy 'fake' 3d with elements that are rendered then its ALWAYS created with actionscript.
I have read some of the 'friends of ed' books and the new 'FlashMX Studio' book is pretty good and describes the process of creating a 3d engine for what you'd like to do.
Anyone else have resources. I'd also check out www.flashkit.com
Good luck. Post a link when you are underway/done.

Try swift3d. I think it only runs in OS9 right now though...
I built my little tunnel animation using 3dstudio max and a swift3d plugin when I was taking a 3d class on a pc... never finished the site though...

Swift 3D v.2 only works in OS9 at the moment, but there is a new version - swift 3D v.3 which is OSX native and is due out imminently.
There is a swift 3D plugin available for lightwave 7 on the mac (not sure if that works in OSX though).

the swift plugin for lightwave works in 9 and osx- the original (swift plugin v1) only worked in 9 originally, but a free update download sorted that out- the new one works in both. its really good too- (I have to say that, I was a beta tester )
