Man I am getting pissed off with illustrator 10. the thing crashes with the 'this program has unexpectedly quit" message at least once an hour. is anyone else getting the same type of issues with this damn program? i don't mind saving continuously, but the fact thatit will self destruct on me at any given moment is quite disturbing. i'm a graphic designer so this is really horrible. it's terrible. am i the only one?

The only issue I have with it is that it if fairly slow. But perfectly usable. Fairly stable here.

yeah, the last illustrator that runs fast is version 8, and even adobe admits that majority still using version 8 even if they have 9 or 10 installed.
The only reason i am using 10 is because i don't like to run classic on my computer but it is too slow for any real work.
I guess they want you to upgrade to the upcoming 11 instead of fixing the speed issue.

I have 8 and 9 on my computer, and I only run 9 when it's absolutely necessary. I'm addicted to 8 until they release something more stable and fast.

the 10.0.3 update is crucial
I have a theory that you should never buy an Adobe product till the micro update comes out 2-3 months later (i.e. 7.0.1 or 10.0.3)...
sucks but that's just how Adobe seams to be...
anyway Ai 10 runs great on my dual 1 gig and my Ti 1gig...
The Native PDF thing was flakey in OS 9 but now it's great...
I just wish the old streamline stuff was intergraded

alright, I think I find a temporary way to fix the problem right now. When the illustrator 10 tries to update at the startup, hit CANCEL as fast as you can. then the program will skip that step. Go to prefrences and turn off the auto update and it should be ok.

1. Yes the 10.0.3 update helps a lot.
2. When I upgraded my old Dual 450 to a Dual 800, it made a huge difference. It runs fine...very usuable. Still slower than it should be though. Glad to hear that Version 11 will address that. I'm really not complaining...Just saying...I've used it plety of times for real clients.
3.I've seen two rumors about Streamline...one of which seems to not be true since Illustrator 11's new features have already been announced. One being that it would be intergrated into Illustrator 11, and the other I just saw recently, that Streamline 5 was being made for X. For now...Corel decided to make ONE decent product in CorelTrace. It works great. too bad the rest of the suite is garbage IMO. i used to run Streamline 4 in Classic which worked fine as well.

I always wonder if a faster processor would help, unfortunately i don't have the cash to burn....
I've noticed that every apps in X has generated much larger pdf file than when in OS9, i always have to export that particular pdf file to ps in acrobat and then re-distill to get it smaller. However, i think it is not adobe's fault.

10.0.3 is a must have. Mine also crashed EVERY time, until I disabled the "automatic update". It was unuseable before that.
Now, however, works great. Slow, but beautiful results.

Interresting link Helvetica. One thing I don't see which I think is long past due for Illustrator is to integrate Adobe Streamline functionality. Of course I don't recall if this is built into 10 or not since I rarely use that version even though I have it right here. I still use 9 which is faster and more stable. I'm actually surprised so many complaiuned about version 9. I've found version 8 to be more problematic and lacking many features built into 9.
I think Illustrator 10 was a waste of time. All it really is - is Illustrator 9 for OS X. Almost every first release for OSX has received many complaints. You can call me dis-loyal, but I'll wait it out until all the important applications run as smoothely as they do under OS 9.x (or better, I mean OSX is "supposed" to be "better" right?)

trash preferences.
on a side note, there are a couple Illustrator/Photoshop consistency issues that I would like to see resolved.
1) no reset pallet locations
2) In illustrator, you type, then hit escape to get out of typing. If you try that in Photoshop, your type goes away, and you can't undo it back. I think illustrator could just make enter be enter and escape be escape. Whats so hard about that.
3) I wish I could have the Illustrator pen tool in Photoshop. can't they reuse that code?
There are more, but those are my main ones. Anyone else got some?
