(already posted this at the Quark forum, still haven't gotten a straight answer)
I work for a company that does yellow page ads and pages yellow page books. We just upgraded to Quark 5 upon orders from our boss (the owner of the company). In any case, we're expected to work out all the bugs (and by "we" I mean the art department which consists of myself and one other person). One thing I noticed last week was when I'd print the same ad from Quark 5 our X% yellow background comes out with blue spots (so it comes out "greenish"). It's a pure yellow (4 color process yellow). Under Quark 4.11 the yellow prints, well YELLOW! Since we basically handle all the proofs and ship them off to the publisher(s) they expect to see a true yellow on the proof. Plus, since we actually do yellow page ads, there's tons of yellow in use at all times. The printer in question is an HP 2500 Inkjet which has Postscript 3. I've yet to test printing to any of our other proofing printers (we have another 2500 and an Oki 9200 Color Laser printer) Somehow I doubt the printer is at fault here since we never had this problem under QuarkXPress 4.11. I've checked all the output settings against those in Version 4.11 and they all look the same to me. Is there something I'm missing here? Has anyone experienced weird color output issues going from version 4.x to version 5.x? If so I'd appreciate any input on this issue.
Thanks in advance
MikeM

whoa, that's a new one by me. all my clients want me to save down to q.v.4 because nobody's buying q.v.5.
as you work through the issues and determine the culprit(s) please post your findings.
thank you for allowing others to learn from your problems and trouble shooting.

Check your colorsync settings. I've run into issues with Quark 4 doing stuff like that, but had worse luck with 5. I still use exclusively aside from opening and saving down files.
Look to be sure the color settings are not attempting to emulate a press, one of the settings will try and 'muddy' your colors to give a more accurate representation of what a press would likely do. It sounds like that may be what its trying to do.
Its so frustrating to know you used to have control over this and things just worked. I think Quark and Apple haven't gotten it all ironed out and obviously they haven't.
Its just as likely a user configuration error, that if you knew which setting to use would make your troubles go away.
Good luck, but take a look at your colorsync settings and see if changing them helps.

Thanks for the input . All is not lost since we still have 4 on our macs also. Looks like we'll be in version 4 for a while. I will post results if I can figure the damn thing out
All of this provoked my somewhat reserved female boss/co-worker to exclaim "upgrades suck!!" At least I got a laugh out of that

*BUMP*
Well I did promise I'd post the solution to the problem. Maybe someone else who is having the same problem can benefit from this. I "discoverred" it today
As usual when troubleshooting things it seems that I have a really bad habit of over-looking the obvious/simplest things. After trying so many other crazy things it was as simple as changing the printer settings from the print window from SWOP emulation to any one of the other options available.
'Just goes to show sometimes it's not necessary to take the whole computer apart when it's simply a matter of it not being plugged in
