I am perplexed...I have a 2001 iBook 500mhz that I am using to burn a data cd with pictures and fonts on it so that it can be used by a web designer...however, when he tries to open my folder on the cd, he gets this message:
"D:/finished refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have moved to a different location."
He has a pc with Windows 98. I tried to open the disc on a pc running xp and got the same results. What gives? Am I a bonehead and am forgetting to do something when I burn the disc? I essentially just drag the info to the disc, and click the burn icon...it verifies and shows on my laptop...HELLPP!! etc, etc, etc.

This may be an old problem but were the files out in the open (on the top level of the CD) or were they within folders?
I've never seen it myself, but apparrently if they're within folders coming from a Macintosh, the PC will not be able to read them. This has always been standard op;erating procedure for me now whenever I'm sharing stuff with Windows users.
Try burning just the files to a CD and see what happens.
Good luck

in my experience...windows PC's need a bit of help to read mac files.
1) avoid mac folders. they tend to confuse windows PC's
2) make sure files have proper extensions on the filename or windows won't know what to do with the file (like .jpg, .psd whatever)
3) make sure, if you're using a program like toast that you burn the disc as a mac/PC hybrid.
if you burn with the mac OS X finder, it should burn the disc as a single session....if you're using toast, check to see whether the wintel CD-ROM can support multi-session CD's. i've found a few that can't and that can also pose a problem.
hope this helps!

add to that listed above, I would make sure you are burning at slowest speeds. Mayhap the windoze guys only have a 2x drive.

Don't recall if it was 10.2 or one of the updates that introduced the problem, but I believe it was fixed with a later patch 10.2.3?

hey all,
i am going to try the myriad of suggestions you made...sorry i haven't responded, but i didn't get any email notifications from the forum...so i just thought no one had responded. anyway, i am attempting to burn it in the finder, and will try today, as i am at my parent's house, and they have a gateway running xp...blah. needless to say, my father and brother take an interest in my ibook everytime i come home. thanks again.

wow I used to be able to edit photos, save as jpg and drag them onto a compact flash card and take it to the local lab with a fugi frontier mini digital lab and get prints (reuse the cards and not have to burn a cd for like a few photos) now they can't read my cards on there pc's after the latest jag update. Man this pisses me off...anyone else having this problem??
