Hi everybody...

I'm heading off to San Francisco at the end of summer and I need to find a job up there...

I've been a fine artist/graphic deisgner/production artist for 3 years...

I also have done a bunch of coloring work on comic books (DC and Wildstorm)...

What I haven't done is any web stuff... but I know in the real word someone of my profession should have a web presence

I want to do a web page that has both Flash and Html (either/or option)...

I’m looking for some other examples of people that have a similar web site...

Does anyone know of sites like this? I don't want to copy or steel but I do need some ideas...

High end stuff to the simple "biz card" web site I guess...

thanks

The best way to learn this stuff is to just start doing it.

Get yourself a copy of flash or download the demo from macromedia.com and jujst experiment. Do the tutorials and see what you pick up.

Aside from that, flashkit is just about the best flash resource on the web. You can read tutorials or download entire flash movies and websites to learn from.

I'm sure some of the more experienced designers would know of more options that I don't know of. Just keep looking, you will always find new ideas.

Best advice: Avoid Flash. Most professional web designer will suggest the same thing.

If you want some ideas for portfolio, you can check my website at www.thebettsbro.com . It's more of portfolio website than a service website like StarWars Guy's website (very nice website, btw) www.bitflydesign.com

Flash 5 has a 98% plugin penetration.

That makes it a completely viable delivery format. So I wouldn't go so far as to make such broad generalizations like that. Considering the large number of large companies that employ flash in their websites, I'd even go so far as to beg to differ. That being said, there is a world of difference between usable flash, and useless flash. And god knows there is ALOT of useless flash out there. Maybe even as high a percentage as horribly designed non-crossplatform unusable pure html sites. (get what I'm saying?) Its not the tool, its the product.

I don't really have a *real* portfolio online in any finished states, I keep a portfolio/personal site up as a stylistic sample though. I tend to prefer a mailer though, but thats just me.

concaf

I'm in the middle of switching servers/polishing the redesign, etc, and I'm not really linking it out much yet anyway so it might be a tad bit rough around the edges.

heheheh, and.....flash 6 required.

Graphics84, private message me with more detailed info about your graphics design background, your skills, how much you'd like to make per hour, etc. Also, whether you'd be interested in doing some contract work to build up your portfolio.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Griggsy's website is a perfect example why HTML is better than Flash.
