What is the best software to create large posters of my paintings?

am I limited due to the fact that I'm using an iMac 500mhz DV SE (graphite) and not a G4?(no money )

I never upgraded my old Fireworks 4 since I never used it much.

I was trying to save a 23x35 inch poster at 300DPI or Higher and it crashed fireworks.

I tried 16x20 and it still crashed I'm not sure fireworks 4 in classic can process a large image like that.

I'm thinking of buying a new Scanner that works with OS X
a new digital camera and Fireworks MX...

Will that do the trick on must I have a G4?

I need help with the best low cost way to create large image files thanks

I think your old mac is fine, but I would say that you need more memory for fireworks (or photoshop.)

How are you outputting them? Are you only making inkjet posters? Then you might be able to get by with a lower resolution. If offset printing, no dice.

thanks for the reply I have 640 MB of memory on this mac
I guess I would need much more to work that big
I need a 24 by 36 poster done

fireworks simply can't handle print resolution graphics at that size. Use photoshop. Even if its just the demo.
