i am digitising my photo collection using a nikon film scanner and photoshop on another mac. burning the bmps to cds which i bring home to my ibook.

i can import the bitmaps from the cd no probs into iphoto 2. each file is about 9MB.

Whenever I do any further editing in iphoto, the file size is massively increased. a simple crop and brightness adjustment has turned 9MB files into 20MB ones.

Anybody know what is going on here?

Thanks.

are you really using .BMP ? maybe iPhoto turns these into .TIFF which are possibly bigger ? don't know, just guessing.

yep, that .bmp is your problem, BMP is an uncompressed format just like .TIFF, you should use JPEG if you want to keep the filesize down.
