The best program I found for making vr pieces is called "VR Panoworx" (I dont know the actual url but it shouldn't be that hard to find)

1. Get a camera (film or digital)
2. Get a tri-pod
3. Get a pano head from Kaidan or a competitor.
4. Get QTVR Studio , or a competitave product.

Set everything up right and go to town!

Thanks for the tips guys.

Looks like it's out of my price range though - I was interested in doing a couple of htem just as a hobby but it looks to be quite expensive.

If you have a camera and tri-pod, you can actually do this for free (I believe). You could technically skip the pano head, it would give some paralax problems, but it is doable. There exists some free pano stitching software, but I can't remember the name. Do some searching on the net, you can find it.

P.S. That Time Square pano is horrible! Notice the people in the fore-ground, cut in half!
