I'm a Freehand user trying to learn Illustrator (10) and I need to know how to move the centrepoint of a circular gradation inside an object (I want to move it from the centre of a square to the bottom left hand corner).
In Freehand there's a crosshair in a palette and I just drag that - I can't figure out how to do it in Illustrator. It's a Japanese version I'm using and my Japanese isn't up to reading the help...
Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

Use the gradient tool on the tool palette.

Also use the Gradient palette to customize your gradient. You can add more colors, change the center point, etc.

Exactly. Click where you want the origen of your gradient and drag.

Beside stretching the gradient with the gradient tool, you can reset the center point for some interesting effects.
To demonstrate:
1) Draw a circle using the ellipse tool.
2) Apply a radial gradient (select type: radial on the Gradient palette).
3) Using the gradient tool (ninth down, on the right), click-hold and drag across the circle.
4) The resetting center point part: after #3, release, move the mouse, and click again.
5) Experiment.
