I have done some toolbar icons for a cocoa programme (Cocoa eFax) and was wondering how best to compress the TIFFs for the toolbar icons. The smallest I can get is around 20k while Apple manage to get the same style of icon to 8k.

What settings would be most efficient in PS7
David.

you do have the option to save it as a lzw compressed tiff..

not sure how that compression will work with the interface builder..but would imagine it would be fine..

you can specify lzw compression when saving the tif file

I have the same problem. I'm unable to get under 20k even with LZW compression. Apple must be using a different software for TIFF compression

perhaps Graphic Converter could get it smaller.

Wonder what Apple use?

Could be a bug in ps7

Have you reduced the amount of colors available in the file? If not this will help greatly.

I advise you to use png instead of tiff...
And if you still want to use tiff... Apple's own tiff compression is the best (compared to photoshop). Just open your tiff in Preview.app and export it as tiff file.

Make sure the "save big files" options are unchecked in your prefs - this basically saves previews, header information etc in the file and can at leat double file size sometimes.

The easiest way round it is to save it as a Web format - PS automatically removes any extraneous resources. As for TIFF, not sure, but I'm sure unchecking those options would do tha trick.
