Corel is discontinuing the development of Bryce for the Mac. Bryce 5 is software for creating 3D landscapes and animations.

"At Corel we continually monitor the sales performances of our products to ensure we capitalize on market trends and opportunities," Meredith Dundas, Corel's communications manager, told MacCentral. "Through our research we have found that sales for Corel Bryce 5 are strongest with Windows customers, particularly at retail. As a result we have chosen to focus our efforts on Bryce 5 for Windows."

Oh no! What will we do?

No more lame obvious computer generated terrain. We're going to have limit ourselves to learning a good 3D program.

Honestly, I liked Bryce for doing quick backdrops and stuff. But was never a full 3D program for my uses. Suppose I'm gonna have to do something else. I reckon the sales for Bryce are down because they've not actually innovated or made any great new features since version 4. We Mac people are a bit more discerning.

If they make something cool, like how the new poser looks like it'll be, then the demand will start up. But until then - no tears shed for another Corel 'management' decision.

It made for really nice renders (of your own models and such, not just terrains ), and it was handy for making small movies. It's sad to see it go. Oh well. Maya and Cinema4D.

i never did that terrain crap with bryce like making scenery. i would take a terrain and put the camera super close up to it and bend, stretch, move it and get really nice flowing textures that i used for lots of video.

You want terrains, go buy Vue de Esprit 4

Way better than Bryce...

never used it yet. simple things like terrains you would never use like they are made for can make super tight smooth backdrops and stuff when you blur and tweak them a little!

I just bought Vue. I hope it's worth it. It seems to do trees a lot better. Now I want to get Poser 5.

I have a feeling that this isn't the last we'll hear about Bryce on the mac.
