never going to get a decent version of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop!

I'm the biggest fan of OS X i know... I got a 1gig Ti as soon as they shipped so I could finally run it on a decent machine and Photoshop and Illustrator would run well. Well they don't and never did. I've put up with a slow and buggy AI 10 (thank god for the 10.0.3 upgrade) and a slow PSD 7 (the screen draw alone kills my productivity).

So I've been waiting for AI 11 and PSD 8 thinking that they would run better and faster on my Ti (keep in mind I have 1 gig of ram).

... but now with the G5 out... will that happen? Yeah Adobe is going to release new versions of both but are they even going to optimize for the G4 anymore?

My only hope is that 10.3 speeds up the basic graphics so much that PSD 7 and AI 10 seem like new programs.

But I doubt it's going to do much (jury's out, and the fingers are crossed).

What could help would be a scaled down version of both. I have basic needs in photoshop 90% of the time and I wouldn't mind using a simpler version for those things and then starting up my over-bloated version for that other stuff. Same with Illustrator...

what do you guys think?

what I do requires me to use 300-450 dpi files 11X16 in RGB with a additional art channel...

so redraw is important when I'm zoomed in and moving around

Photoshop runs pretty peachy on my dual 500, illustrator is still a dog.

but its not NEARLY as crappy as Flash and Dreamweaver on OSX. I'll take b.s. crappy applications for 500 please, MM. Thanks. I've been waiting on updates to those two for almost a year now.....nope more than a year now.

According to a MacCentral article I believe, Apps that are optimized for the G5 will actually benefit the G4 users as well. I'm no tech geek or anything, so I have no clue what process is involved or anything, but supposedly its supposed to help in te long run.

You need a desktop if you can't wait for render. My G4 DP800 is not the fastest Mac you can buy but I have no problem with the same files sizes as you use.

How much RAM do you have? That could definately be an issue. The gfx card should be pretty good, and the 1hz CPU and nice L# should be able to hold up fairly well.

I'm thinking a RAM problem. Photoshop could be optimized a little better, I agree. So could OS X (Come on Panther!)

Yeah I hope Panther comes through...

should be cool...

I don't dun much else but I do have iTunes running most of the time... just got an ipod so I'll stop that soon...
