The day has finally come for me to get 'Applefied'.
I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
I think I have access to all the apps, so I am not worried there -

But can anyone who's recently switched give me any stumbling blocks they've had in transitioning?

Thanks -

I have actually had an Apple II E, and a Mac Performa 680 (if I remember right). I switched over to PC's in high school just because I knew no one who had a Mac.

Now that I am getting into design, obviously, it's like a homecoming.

MacOS X is like art in motion. The more you use OS X, the more you'll love it.

Doing graphics, etc on MacOS X is much more flexible and easier than it is on Windows. With Panther's Exposé feature, it'll be every graphic designers' heaven

I've been doing graphic design for about 12 years already and just recently switched to Macs (Yes, always worked in PCs). Believe me, the transition is smoooooooth.
Just a suggestion: don't think how the computer would do things, think how YOU would do them, that's the way OS X works.
Probably the hardest part will be dealing with fonts, but you'll get used to it and there is always help in this forum.

One thing I see that's a little different -

The way Photoshop starts a document, it does so right over your desktop. Where as in PC land, it starts it over a full grey screen.
As much as I like my desktop, a neutral color might be best. Is there a preference or anything I can do to fix this?

Thanks for the kind words guys, I am looking forward to getting my Mac any day now from UPS.

I just stuck all my os 9 fonts in User/Library/Fonts/ in individual folders and it works fine, the font book in Panther though looks cool

If you hit the F key once, it will put you into neutral (gray) mode, where you can only see the document you're working on. Hit F again, and the background will go black. Hit it one more time, and everything will go back to normal.

I prefer normal mode because I can drag stuff between documents more easily. Especially between illustrator and photoshop.

Also, Fonts in 10.3 promise to be spectacularly easy to manage. So, yeah, if you're planning on switching soon, that will be something to look forward to.

Plus, you get the bonus of any of your Windows TrueType fonts will work in OS X.

OH WOW!?! Serious?
That's GREAT, because I've accumulated quite the collection.
That's an excellent bit of news.
