I'm making posters for my college's Christian Union. (Note to Americans: College over here is like your High School, not like uni.)
I just wondered if anyone had any tips on designs specifically for that target group. I've done posters before, nice ones, and had them ripped down or rude comments scrawled over them. For our carol service at Christmas I did a design with 3 candles in the centre, printed in a sepia tone and with white writing on... someone took a bottle of tipp-ex to it and drew obscene symbols over the top. So you see what I have to cope with.
We're aiming to attract Christians and anyone curious about it. The people who deface or rip down the posters aren't likely to be interested - we're not aiming at them. The point is, these people seem to take offense to Christian stuff and damage the posters. My designs in the past have had lots of time spent on the aesthetics, as opposed to the normal student posters which all tend to be made in Word, with one of those awful text effects at the top and the main font as Times New Roman.
If I did my posters in Word like that, they'd look awful (to anyone design conscious), but they'd blend in with all the other posters. So they wouldn't get ripped down, but they wouldn't be seen by anyone who might be interested. It's hard to get the balance right.
BTW, the info that needs to go on them is basically just the meeting times and days, the location of the room, and the web site address.
