from what I can tell, there isn't really a set pattern, it's more an effect you can apply to an existing shape/text/etc. there look to be some good tutorials at these sites:

http://www.erichockman.com/metal.html
http://www.designsbymark.com/pstips/
http://www.phong.com/tutorials/metal/
http://www.eyeball-design.com/page09.htm

good luck.

thx for the link avenir. I wanna create the brushed metal feeling just like safari does. I will try it myself but of course if there is a pattern or style out there like that would be awsome.

Just use Theme Park to extract out the brushed resource from iTunes... it's in the iTunes.rsrc file inside iTunes.

To achieve a similar effect, do the following:

1) White surface to "brushmetallize"
2) Add Monochrome noise, non gaussian.
3) Motion Blur, horizontal. Adjust distance conveniently.
4) New layer on top. Blend mode: multiply
5) fill with a "50% Black - white - 50% Black" horizontally-swept gradient. Adjust opacity at will.

Y no entienden nada... ¡y cómo se divierten!...
