Hey. Layers should be checked 'on' not 'off' in the save dialog box. That should fix it

Try saving as a Tiff with layers in tact, and then reopen the image in Photoshop.
Are you saying it is selected? (Checked off)
Or deselected? (Checked off)
You must select this option, but it is usually the default.
Good luck.

yeah, the box for remember layers is checked off as it is the default setting—though checked off always means it is registered. I saved it as a TIFF andf reopened it and it saved my layer, but when I saved it as a PSD and opened it, it did not. photoshop hadn't been doing this before but now all of a sudden PSDs are having a problem. you both don't have an explanation for that do you? thanks for the help.

I don't even have Photoshop 7.0
I used it at work when I had a job, and cannot afford to buy it so, can you send a quick snapshot of the preference?

Do a save as, as well... I'd like to see the dialogue boxes.
Regards,
Mark

It looks like you are saving a 'copy' of the file.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but Photoshop will flatten the layers in a copy file to save space. I read something to this effect somewhere.
Try not saving as a copy but as a new seperate file with an extenstion after.
ie: original file is: buckaroo.psd
Save as: buckaroo_2.psd
Let me know what that does.
Deselect save as copy!

don't really know what you mean that I was saving as a copy, from looking at teh shot, it seems to me to be an original doc. regardless, I tried saving it that way, and a number of otherways with teh same result. so, I have no idea what's wrong. thanks for the help anyhow and sorry for taking so long to reply. I guess right now it's not really a big problem, well not yet that is.

Try deleting the Photoshop preference file, com.adobe.Photoshop.plist (or just move it to the desktop to see if that corrects the problem)

I've actually done that already, and I've reintalled the program to no avail, but thanks for the tip. so far, i've still got the problem. if you, or anyone, could think of something, that'd be great. thanks.
