I have created a sign for my friend's shop using a photoshop image, transferring it to QuarkXPress and putting it together with the name. Now my friend wants the whole thing in a JPeg for her printer. Is there any way I can change a Quark file into a JPeg? (I have the image saved on it's own as a JPeg)

Also, I tried saving it as a PDF to see if her printer would be happy with that but the image that was transparent in Quark wasn't in the PDF version and it blocked out half the words!!

Any ideas?!?

either retypeset in photoshop, or save the quark file as eps (file>save page as eps)

then open eps in Photoshop and save as jpg. Not sure if that will keep your transparency though.

You need to make sure the PDF is for Acrobat 5 to preserve transparency, and open it using Acrobat 5 or later.

I downloaded Acrobat 5 but the transparency still didn't work. I have managed to sort it out using eps, but is there a plug-in or setting I have to use in Acrobat 5 to make sure things keep their transparency?

do you mean you downloaded acrobat 5, or just the free reader?

How do you make your PDF? how do you distill it?

Opps!! I just got the free reader! I have managed to sort it out using EPS though.
