ive started to catalogue my digi shot collections ive got about 30 gigs of photos right now that i need to archive and get off my computer.. ive found that when i burn them to dvd that it takes FOREVER for the images in a burned folder to appear when the folder is double clicked open.. some of the folders contain 500mb of images... the list view is a bit quicker but of course the preview img of it is so small its hard to tell what image is what.... ive tried also the file browser in Photoshop, that takes even a bit longer because the img previews need to load into the browser...

i have two superdrives, one on my QS thats a 2x and one on my Tibook which is a 1x.... if i were to get an external dvd burner (with a faster read) would it still take a long time?

the only other option i see is to copy selected folders on my desktop and once they are copied then check out whats in the them...thats just such a hassle...

any suggestions would be great as im going to be doing this alot since ive stepped up my digi archives significantly...

tia

maybe a program that catalogs all of the images in a folder with thumbnails and makes them printable, or at least savable? then you can use that list to find a specific filename and then quickly find it in a large folder (since you could turn off the thumbnail preview). actually, if a program like that doesn't exist, it might be a good idea... maybe i'll make something like that

iView Media lets you save catalogs of thumbnails (e.g. entire folders) in different sizes. It's quite fast.
