Anyone here use an ibook for photoshop/quarkxpress/illustrator work? I am a graphic design student who's been a pc user prety much all my life. Im trying to be more efficient and knowledgeable in Macs so, I have been really looking at the 14 inch iBook that they have out right now because its really the best deal that could really fit into my budget. I was just wondering if it can handle moderate work in those programs! You input would be great thanx.

it's what i use... no problems with it, all the programs (photoshop/quark/illustrator - and anything else) run just fine.

you'll definitely notice a performace difference going to a g4, but i've been happy with it.

my only gripe is that you sometimes have to tilt the screen to different angles to 'properly' see images... especially anything light colored. i'm not sure if this is something exclusive to the ibook or if you get it as well with the powerbooks, but it really is minor.

if you have one near you, go to an apple store and check them out... all the stores by me have photoshop loaded on the ibooks, so you can see for yourself how it runs.

I use the PB instead of the ibook, but regarding what you were saying about the screen....

If you hook your ibook up to an external monitor, it's a kick-a$$ setup. Works great using the laptop as a brain for your rig.

my gf uses ibook 800mhz 12" for HEAVY photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, fireworks, imageready and more. It works perfectly fine. I would suggest you to do the dual monitor hack. It gives you extra space to work on. very nice!!

It's because of the LCD. They all have it, it's nothing special with the iBook or PowerBook.
