Do you have to wait for the encoding to be finished (in status) to start burning the DVD? If I'm burning a 60 min dvd in iDVD and have a 2x, burner, I noticed that it will burn that DVD in about half an hour when the encoding is done. However, it seems to take WAY more time than half an hour to have that encoding be finished when it's doing it in the background. Now, if I'm done making the DVD but the video hasn't been encoded in the background in iDVD yet, will it speed up when I click burn and ask the computer to burn it? I'm running a dual 1.25 gb powermac.

The encoding is what takes the time, and there's no way around it. It won't begin that actual burning to DVD-R till it's done. If you're doing other things while encoding, it'll take longer since not all the Mac's resources are being devoted to the encoding/compressing, etc.

Time for a G5.
