Hey, does anyone else get this problem when someone emails them a AI file? what happens is once i get the file, i try to open it and it'll say...

"Can't open the illustration. The illustration does not have the correct number of operands for an operator"

along with some other junk. I thought it only happened from one customer but I'll get some ai files from other customers too and sometimes get the same error.

Anyone know why this happens? It can be frustrating going back and forth with a customer telling them to try and sending it different ways all the time.

Unless you need the AI file extenstion, I'd save them as an EPS if possible. Also, flattening seems to help. Above all, saving them down a version usually limits the errors encountered.

I had that problem when I adopted AI10, and everyone was still using 8 and 9. They couldn't open the files.
