Hi everybody.

We have an Epson Stylus Pro 5000. We use it for prepress proofing before we send out magazines to our printer.

It is about to die, so we are thinking about buying a new proofing printer.

We like the quality of the Pro 5000.

The problem is the Epson Pro 5500 has been out awhile too.

We don't want to buy a new proofing printer is something new is around the corner.

Has anybody heard of any new proofing printers on the horizon from any company?

Thank you,

DD

The Tektronix Phaser 780 gave us proofs very close to press color (with the correct driver settings) at 4 pages/minute.

More recently, the Xerox (Tektronix) Phaser 7700 gives us the same dead on proofs at about 22 pages/minute.

(Very little difference between sending 22 copies of one page or 22 separate pages. Its got a G4 chip in it...)

We always found that (at least the mini) Epson color was too hot and the dot pitch was actually too high to simulate prepress.

they had the best rpice i could find and they were GREAT to work with.

FYI -- this is like the fourth time i've posted about my buying experience with laser grafix. i've done so because i feel good customer service should be noted. they were very, very, very good to me.
