If you had a relatively simple image, and wanted to get rid of ONE color in the image ....

is that possible in Photoshop?

I've always wondered how this could be done, but I'm unable to figure it out!

thanks for any help!!!

There are several things you may be talking about. A thumbnail of the image with a better description would help.

First, if you are trying to prepare an image for professional printing and doing a multiple color job that is NOT full-color (CMYK).

The second option from your description is simply to get something out of an image that is all one color. Each method takes a different approach.

But the basic idea is to make a selection using the selection tools to remove the color. You would likelye be in a different color mode for these two methods.

For the first approach you would be removing the color from each of the color channels where you don't want the color and leave the image information on the channel of choice. You'd either be in CYMK mode or Multichannel mode (in multichannel mode each channel acts somewhat like a layer, but for each ink color. In multichannel mode you'll be limited in the format for saving this file to a DCS format which is a particular EPS format that allows the color for each channel to be specified as a solid ink color.

For the other method of removing a colored object, you'll need to make the selection desired and remove it from the entire image. You may find by looking at your channels palette that one of the channels would make it easier to define the selection. This really makes a difference in WHAT the image really LOOKS like and the desired goal.

This may be too general a description, but push you in the right direction. If you have a better description or a thumbnail of the image it may help discern how best to accomplish your goal.

For the simple answer:

Make a selection around the object or color you want to remove and press the delete key.

OR

Look into the "select by color" option in one of the menus. In more complex images this will be a little more difficult. There are a lot of settings that can be tweaked with this one.

When the dialog opens, use the eyedropper to select the color you want to change/remove.

Adjusting the "fuzziness" slider will affect whether/how any adjacent pixels are included in your selection.

If you want to be able to make further adjustments to the color later (using: Select > Color Range for example), choose a bright color that doesn't appear elsewhere in the image as the replacement color (the "Sample" swatch).

As bluedog said, that will depend on what you are actually trying to do. How would you "like" it to work? (Post an example)
