Calling all Print Designers!
Try this one.

In Quark 4, I have styled text that is placed via Get Text.
How can I maintain the Menu Styles (Bold, Italic, etc) while appling a style sheet??

Is this possible?

What happens when I do this is that the Menu Styles get erased and everything changes to Plain.

Thanks!

Honestly, you really shouldn't be using the menu styles for Bold and Italic. Other ones, like all-caps or superscript, are okay, but many RIPs have problems with the Bold and Ital. Quark *should* use the font's actual bold outlines when you choose bold, but it doesn't always - it will often make a faux-bold by thickening the letters themselves. This faux version cannot be handled by many printer RIPs.

You should always specify the actual Bold version of your font. You can make a character style sheet that just bolds certain words within a paragraph if you'd like.

That said, just clicking the style sheet's name while your text is selected should apply the styles, while keeping things like all-caps intact (you'll then see a plus next to the style sheet name for that texd indicating that it is not only using the style sheet). Option-clicking the style name dumps all applied styles and uses only what is specified in that sheet.

yes, that is wise advise and whenever possible I dont use menu styles because of that.

However menu styles is a way of life for our editorial department, and so far our RIPs are ok for the fonts we use.

I've done some experiements, but with no avail.
yes, option clicking the style sheet is common practise here, to remove any previous editing.

But my problem still remains on maintaining menu styles when applying a style. I should not that the menu style is applied outside of quark, and maintained when I get Text.

What's weird is that this isn't a problem when the text is set to Normal to begin with.

When Set to Normal, I can bold, say a peron's name, and highlight the text and change the style sheet and it Keeps the Bold menu style.

sigh.
