Im wondering if the powerbook really has enough power for the hardcore design some of you do.

Yep. My primary machine is a 1GHz 15" Titanium.

Plenty of power. It slows down a bit when I'm doing HiRes Photoshop work, but that's not an everyday thing for me, so I deal.

Not enough screen real estate, so I do the dual monitor thing when designing.

GhzTi here. Works fine. I certainly use up all the 1GB of RAM I have when using photoshop with big files, so I have to make sure I have plenty of swap space.

I used to do my work on a PB 667 DVI and it handled my files well unless I was, like others have said doing hi-res photoshop work.

I've since sold the machine and upgraded to a 2ghz dual G5. The difference in speed is obvious but change I feel the most is the screen size (20" Cinema)—so I recommend a nice monitor to use while you're docked to your desk.

And a coolpad/iCurve.

Yose.

I've been working on a 333MHz G3 Powerbook for several years.

It actually works fine for Quark, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop (although it can slow way down in PS)

I just got an 867MHz G4 Powerbook (staying away from the 15" Aluminum due to the screen problems). I'm installing 1 GIG of RAM, and running Panther.

I'll run some benchmark tests just for my own amusement.

Full gig o' ram. Works pretty well. Get as much as will fit in the machine.

Nope. Not sure about power req's for 3D.

Same here. 1G RAM and sometimes I have to go and drink a coffee with large files in PS. But those are HUGE files.

I also use a 1GHz Ti. Seems to be a popular model. I've got 1GB of Ram, and it runs very well. As with other, just a few slowdowns on large PS files. Other than that, this is the greatest computer I've ever had. I also use dual display with a 15" Apple Studio.

TiBook 1Ghz. Occassional slowdowns when doing lots. Works great though.

I run Maya 5 on my 800 MHz G4 Titanium without a hitch. It can bog down on very complex scenes, but that is usually the case with most 3D apps on just about any system. I would imaging that Bryce would run just fine. Rendering speeds won't be anywhere near a G5 though.

the powerbooks have all the power you want. I haven't worked heavily on one in a while, but I used to edit on a tibook, the little bastards are as fast as they are hot.
