Ok, heres what I'm trying to do. For fun I'm making a face for my alarm clock. I've disassembled it and scanned in its current face to get an idea of the size and shape of the space I have to deal with. My problem is that I can't find a good way to uniformly place text (hour numbers) at the 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock ect. positions. I've been able to (painstakingly) draw the hour and second markers but doing radial grids and masking over the insides. All I want it to reproduce that face of a simple analog clock! I hope this makes some sense.

If all you are doing are the markers (and not the numbers), I have a [relatively] simple solution for you...

First, draw a short vertical (or horizontal) line with the pen tool. This is one of the "markers."

Then, Option+Shift+drag the line segment so that you create a copy of that segemnt directly across from it (just like the 12 o'clock marker is directly across from 6 o'clock, for example).

When that is done, select both segments, and double-click the rotate tool on the tool palette. enter 90, and hit the "Copy" button. You should now have four markers, at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions.

select all four markers, double-click the rotate tool again, enter 6 for the units, and hit "copy." Keep hitting apple+D (or "Transform Again" under the "Object" menu) until you complete the circle.
