So I have a 3 minute, 20 second video I'm putting on a CD. The only catch has been that every time I put it on as a QuickTime format, I get lots of skipping when I play it off the CD - no such effect when playing it straight from my hard drive.

So, I want to create a QuickTime file that is fairly large quality, but won't skip if I play it from a CD. I've been playing with the export settings for days, and I'm about to go nuts.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Matt Fahrenbacher

why don't you tell us what you've tried already and what the results were. also the speed (and age) of the drive, and of the target drives if it's for distribution

Well, I've tried Sorenson Video 3 at 720 x 480 which came out to be 173 MB and required 884.3 kb/sec data rate. I've also tried Cinepak at 720 x 480 at 271 MB and data rate of 1.3 MB/sec.

I can't seem to figure out the speed of my drive, but it's a Superdrive coming with a 867 mhz 12 inch powerbook, and I think it rips at 8x.

Thanks,

Your drive reads CDs at 24x: http://manuals.info.apple.com/Apple_...L25519A_EN.pdf

The size of the file isn't going to matter; the bitrate will. You want to lower the bitrate to something around 500 KBps or even lower. This is just a guess though, as I've never bothered doing this.

Try an MP4 implementation. I suggest 3ivx as their MP4 files are fully compatible with Apple's implementation, so the user needs only to have QuickTime 6 installed, and nothing else.

3ivx worked wonders, thanks!
