I posted this in the Software forum, got plenty of views, but no answer yet. That's why I decided to post here again.
Ok, I kinda got fed up with iPhoto.
After some crashes that seem inevitable, it corrupted three out of four libraries. iPhoto crashes upon launching one of those, reimporting them causes my system to be restarted, because it gets unusable.
Now I want consider the alternatives.
What I have found so far:
- iView Media Pro 2 (around 150 €)
- iView Media 1.3 (about 30 €)
- Cumulus ($70)
- Extensis Portfolio 6 ($200)
Can anyone comment on these apps? I have tried both iView apps and they seem incredibly speedy (ok, compared to iPhoto) and most of the things seem to be there.
What I want to know (from people who use the software above or one that I am not yet aware of): How stable is the respective app? What about bugs? How are the pictures organized (i. e. can I let the software manage the actual location in my filesystem)?
What I need most is the feeling of a software that just works without crashes. Like Keynote or FinalCut. It just works.
