I have designed and built a number of photographer's web sites.

When I receive an original image from the photographer with an embedded profile I alvays select "Don't convert" from the Photoshop 'profile mismatch' dialogue box and then go on my merry way resizing/uploading etc.

I have never had a problem until recently when one guy started complaining about the colour balance of his images.

My thought process was....if there is an embedded profile....then don't touch it....as I don't want to mess with anything!

However, this guy has a point.. The colours of his imaged do look a tad desaturated on the site I created.

Convert or Not Convert...what's your verdict?

I support throwing the profile.

I recommend that the artist, because they love their work the most, make the file look the way they want it to. Some people are going to be looking at the artwork with thousands of color displays from 1993... hardly a cinema display - that color profile won't mean a thing to that antique, I own a couple of em.

If someone has a nifty color they like, then they need to bind it to the file, not add a profile that has to travel with the file for its entire lifetime. Imagine if we built websites with profiles attached to all the images!

Make the finished art what you want it to look like. thats my 35 cents.
