I'm currently using Font Book to manage fonts but I don't have much more than the default library of fonts in OSX. However, a friend is giving me alot of fonts (several hundred). He works IT for a design studio (dont worry, I'm not going to profit from any work done using these fonts without purchasing them first and he's experienced several font-related issues with font book. In fact, font seems to be the #1 cause of most problems according to him. Has anyone else experienced this?

So my questions are:

What's Font Book's capacity for font?

Is there a better font management program that anybody can recommend for several hundred fonts?

Thanks for any insight!

Like demograph68, I use Suitcase. I'm not prepared to call it "the best" but it suits my needs nicely.

Suitecase XI is light years better than its predecessor, like a/d said, its not the best, but its good enough.

Ditto-- I've been using Suitcase since 3.0, and it's been a love/hate relationship the whole way, but it does what it's supposed to do. X1 doesn't seem to suffer from the kind of database corruptions I was having in 10, so life has improved.

Yes, get FontAgent Pro 2.1.1, <www.insidersoftware.com>. They have a 30 day trial on their website. I have used Suitcase (ugghh) and highly recommend FontAgent Pro. It not only manages your fonts, but it verifies them when you first import them. Also, there is a FontPlayer to view and print font sample books. Give it a try

I second that. FontAgent Pro has worked for me way better than Suitcase. I'm really comfortable with it.

I have a question. I've got several hundred fonts in a storage folder over the network on a PC. If I install FontAgent Pro, will it be able to manage those fonts stored across the network, or do all the fonts have to be installed on the local HD?

I'm using the storage on the network as a main storage since my eMac doesn't have a whole lot of disk space.

Thanks!

Font Agent Pro want all the fonts in one place on your internal drive. Adding fonts will result in it copying them to its preferred location in your home folder. That's one of the reasons I didn't care for the app.

chris v - Thanks! I did notice that and didn't like that. Suitcase just references the fonts where ever they are and that's a huge plus in my book.

But I'm having a problem with it's display of fonts. It isn't recognizing that some of my loose fonts are just different styles in the same font family and is picking them up as individual familes. Do I have to create a suitcase for the family so that it is listed properly? If so, how do I do that?
