I'm wondering if anyone can give me some tips on how to create a halftone gradient in Photoshop or Illustrator. The closest example that I have to what I have in mind is in the image attached below. I would like to use the gradient to both fill in letters and as a background.

I have tried to create a black and white gradient, and then convert it to a halftone, but this has not worked out very well because the gradient runs between 0% and 100% (I can't get it to go from only 30% to 80%, for example), and becuase I can't seem to get the size of the dots to look just right.

Any suggestions on how I could replicate something like this?

In Photoshop:

1. Select area to apply effect to.
2. Fill with greyscale gradient fill. Drag the gradient tool from well below the selected area to well above the selected area to keep the gradienttonal range < 0-100%.
3. Filter> Pixellate> Color Halftone... In the dialog, set all the angles the same in order to get the B&W effect you want. Pixel radius = how big you want the dots to be.
