I recently bumped into this demoscene while surfing the net and found a good application for creating demos on one's own but it's pc-only. Has anyone tried to build one of those?

Sure; these are small 3D animations like those in trance music video clips, but created by simply writing some text commands including a lot of math instead of creating them with the help of a 3D software as Maya oder Lightwave.
