I've got a few hundred image files with the extension .sgi that will not open directly in Photoshop.

If I open them in Preview their backgrounds are white, as they should be. When I convert them to .jpg and open them in Photoshop, the backgrounds become black which is problematic. Anybody know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Also, I'd like to be able to print the images out with the filename printed along the bottom of the page (the filenames are a sequence, if the names are printed, it is easier to keep them in order).

Couldn't you print them from Preview, or another app?

try converting them to a tiff or eps? if the background is black its a good sign that maybe they have an alpha or clipping path in there that preview isn't converting right.

Have you tried opening them in GraphicConverter?
