Illustrator CS almost has the function I want. I need to replace about 5,000 little circles with a specific symbol.

Or, if it's possible, somehow replace the default shape the Object Mosaic filter uses.

I'm at a loss.

Get this script:
Replace Object
by John Wundes

http://share.studio.adobe.com/axAsse....asp%3Fc%3D123

Or right click and "Save Linked File As.." with this link:
http://www.wundes.com/JS4AI/replaceObject.js

Here is how it works.
To execute a script:

Do one of the following:
Choose File > Scripts, and choose a script from the submenu.
Choose File > Scripts > Browse, and navigate to the script you want to execute.

To install a script:

Copy the script to your computer's hard disk.

If you place the script in the Presets/Scripts folder inside the Adobe Illustrator application folder, the script will appear in the File > Scripts submenu. If_you place the script in another location on your hard disk, you can execute the script in Illustrator using the File > Scripts > Browse command.

You can attach any of these scripts to an action so you can use a key stroke!!

(Also Avaliable from John Wundes is a "Swap Object" Script. Avaliable at this link: http://www.wundes.com/JS4AI/swapObjects.js )

Edit: Check into his "Copy to Object" This might work better! They are all on his site http://www.wundes.com/JS4AI/JS4AI.html

I hope this helps!

Temporary bump to bring the thread back to life.

A party linked to from here wishes to post a corrected link.

Thanks Reader 50,

The direct link to info on the "copy objects" script is here:
wundes.com

and the direct download (option click and select download link) is here:
http://www.wundes.com/JS4AI/copyToObject.js

Instructions for use are at the top of the script. Open in Text Wrangler or your favorite text editor to read.
Just drop the file in your Illustrator "Scripts" folder and restart illustrator, and it should be available in your File>Scripts drop-down menu.

Happy Illustrating,
-J
