Does anyone know how to take a photograph of a page of text or a map or something similar, and then make the background transparent? I wanna put some writing out of a book or something similar on top of a photo. I can do it using the magic wand, but I'm thinking there's an easier way? Ideally it would end up like a transparent GIF or something similar. I did this once before a long time ago but I forgot how I did it.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm using PS 7.0 on a 933 iBook running OS X 10.3.5.

set the transparency of the type layer to multiply, over the base image. This of course works simply for black type. Now with a map that has color... you might need to duplicate the layer to create a KO mask, there is always a layer mask option but if you dealing with type the multiply option gives you the most control.

Yes. I don't think that's how I used to do it, but that's the effect I wanted. Thank you.
