Anyone download and try it yet?
I'm especially interested in seeing how the native .psd import works. or, more accurately, IF it works.

Hahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,,,,typical Quark BS.
The Qv.6.5 update site *claims* "Import native Adobe® Photoshop documents (.psd files) into QuarkXPress and exploit the power of multi-layer Photoshop images without leaving QuarkXPress."
I can tell you that I just ran the updater and guess what, the FREE KING thing DOES NOT work to import native .psd files.
Good job, Quark, thought you might have finally gotten it together. Hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Quark sucks.

Heh heh, good one.
How any company has the gall to release software in such a state is beyond me, but they do it every time.

I've installed... works like a charm... seems a bit faster.
I haven't tried the Photoshop file thing... but to be honest, I prefer flattening my images prior to sending them to the printer. If I didn't, many projects wouldn't fit on a single CD.

only a fool would send a layered file to the printer. that said, the ability to import psd files into quark would improve productivity on the design / concept end – where, in my experience, the most work must get done with the least reasonable timelines.
one day quark may actually give us that psd import feature.
i'll add that v.6.5 is terribly instable running on my dual 2.5 g5. yesterday was a crash fest. twenty-one times to be exact.

My InDesign ignorance is showing. I always wondered why people made such a big deal about being able to use layered PSD files... I guess my workflow is so hard coded that I don't see the advantage.

I installed it. Big mistake!
No psd files, of course and now it runs SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. And I'm afraid of uninstall it and then have problems with the activation thing (you know, that crazy number that every time you have problems with, you have to send an email and 72 hours later, with no response, you have to call their customer service and then talk to a guy in India and beg him to give you a new number after you explained him why you did with your computer whatever you wanted to because it's yours after all)

Any cheap under $100 deals out there for Quark? I don't want to use it, but I do have clients that use it, so I'm stuck with needing both InDesign and Quark.

I'm afraid you're out of luck. You'll need to cough up the $1,000 like the rest of us. That or break the US copyright laws.

Then you should buy a copy. Don't think you're going to get a legal copy for anywhere near that price. Heck, even upgrades are a few bucks. But if your work calls for it ...

At this point in time, the majority of people are still using Quark. And there is an INCREDIBLE backlog of older Quark files archived. Buying it is the only way around the situation. Bite the bullet... take the cost off your taxes...

As a printer we often REQUEST that artists send thier layer files to us just incase we need to fix something in them.

my printers don't do my color work and thus will not ever get my layered files. no offense, but that's how agencies lose clients.

It depends on the printer and the designer. Some 'designers' need decent repro people to wipe their arses for them. It's a lot easier to add bleed to a layered file for example.

When multiple page support is included, Get Illustrator CS = Solve all your problems. And leave quark with freehand in the 20th century.
Fixed. :-D

I still maintain that people should be doing multipage layouts in a vector drawing app, thats not what its built for, even though I know many designers who use illustrator exclusively, its kind of funny seeing their multi page documents in the form of multiple documents.
