Hey all,

We are a small print/motion graphics department on about twelve macs (five of those are AVIDs, so they don't need much). I am trying to put through a purchase for a new printer for color CD/DVD Labels, proofs for ads, etc. I am looking at the epson Stylus Pro 4000. It was written up by Macworld back in June. Anybody out there got any suggestions for a good printer? We don't need the highest print quality, or the fastest, we just need a good over all printer.

Any body got the epson? Good, bad, ugly stories about it?

Thanks all.

Os

I'm not sure on the specs for the Epson Stylus Pro 4000 you mentioned, but in our Art Department we've been successfully using the Epson Stylus 2200 with outstanding results when using Epson papers.

We have used dozens of other papers, and Epson paper with Epson ink is a knock-out combination for quality. With the quality setting on high and turning off the hi-speed option the output is photographic on their glossy photo papers.

For anyone who looks at their images with a loop or magnifying lens, you may notice the scatter pattern of ink, but it is to date the best output I've seen from an inkjet.

Good luck with your printer, the only disadvantage of the 2200 is we got it without the networking options and now have it firewire to a desktop and use printer sharing. Not the most elegant, but it works (for 3 users).

My vote is for the Epson 2200 also. We use it for color photography proofs for clients. For CD/DVD labels you don't need somthing fancy unless you are doing images that need the high dpi. There is an Illustrator template that allows you to add your design and print.
