GIMP 2.2 unable to open .psd file?

I downloaded Gimp 2.2 for OS X for a friend, in hopes of being able to open a Windows Photoshop6 created .psd file. Gimp installed fine, but when I went to File and then tried to open the .psd it says it could not find the proper translator.

What gives?

I don't think GIMP can open PSD files...
