here's something thats been bothering me for sometime:

when saving an illustrator CS file to PDF, if there is clipping mask that extends over the edge of the page, the pdf page size in acrobat extends to the end of that mask, common sense would suppose the pdf page size should be equal to the illustrator page size, woudn't it?

Of course you can crop the pages in acrobat but this is a hassle if you need to do it to lots of pages.

Any solutions anyone?

Yes this is a pain. Sometimes I think Adobe must keep the Illustrator team locked away in a remote part of the site with no lines of communication with the other product design teams.

Why else would Illustrator CS not use the same (wonderful) PDF export dialogue as InDesign?

Why else would keyboard shortcuts that are the same for InDesign and Photoshop be different in Illustrator?

Why else would they not use the data recovery technique used by InDesign (.idlk) in Illustrator, by far the most crash-prone of the Creative Suite?

Why the seemingly random placement of 'Colour Settings' in the menus?

Etc, etc, ad infinitum...

um I just decided to stop using illustrator for anything I need on a page layout and use indesign instead.

so...problem solved. kind of.

but I agree that the differences between illus. and indesign can be pretty annoying siMac! Like in illus. I can exit from editing a text box with the escape key, but not in indesign!, sooooo annoying....!

...and like how on a French keyboard, Zoom to fill screen is Cmd-0 using the zero key below the function keys in InDesign and Photoshop, while in Illustrator you have to use the zero key on the numpad.
