I've been happily using Photoshop CS (8) on OSX (10.3.6) for nearly a year... np problems
But recently all the fonts started looking crap in Photoshop (look non aliased). Can't pin this down to a particular event on the machine as 3 people use this computer for a variety of tasks.
Fonts look OK in Indesign and other applications on this machine... just Photoshop???
Selecting the 'crisp' or 'smooth' options helps a little but it ain't right! It applies to all fonts... even system fonts like Arial
I've tried ditching preferences and re-installing but still the same.

Any ideas?

IMO fonts are the biggest headache in OSX. Upgrading to OS10.3.8 helped somewhat and you also might want to download and run Fontfinagler. It cleans out the font caches.
