I'm new to Photoshop 7. My understanding of masks is that when you cover pixels with black they disappear from the image and when you add white, the pixels reappear.

Everytime I add a mask to a layer and start covering pixels with black they don't disappear entirely. A transparent hue of the color always remains even when my brush opacity is 100%.

If you can help me on this, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

check that your brush doesn't have a feather on it.

Thanks godzookie2k you're a life saver.

My 'brush' was feathered after all and turning it off sorted the problem.

Now it works
