Hi there...

I work for a print shop in NYC and on two of my work stations the Output Option is missing from my Indesign CS 3.0.1. Both of these computers were recently upgraded to Tiger and the CS2. My operator says the problem was happening before the upgrade. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this? I need to option to create Postscript files and am not sure why it's no longer showing.

TIA!!

So you can't print to file? Isn't that a function of the OS rather than the program? Does it appear when printing from other programs?

Correct..I can't print to file. So far I've only noticed it in InDesign. I wasn't sure if it was program related or system related. The person who told me it was happening says it started before the Tiger upgrade..so if it is system related it must not have been affected by the upgrade.

I'm just at a total loss as to how to fix it...

Thanks!

I can't figure that out here since it is available on my end.

Just to make sure we're on the same page- From InDesign, you click on Print. In the Print dialog box, you click on Printer. In that dialog box, you click on Copies and Pages for the drop down menu and Output Options is not in that list.

Is there anything in that list? Have you tried reinstalling the Printer? Or is like that for all printers?

Yes.....that's exactly where it'smissing from. Everything else is in the list and it seems to be on the CS programs and Quark 6. Haven't tried to reinstall anything yet...I was hoping it was a preference..?

To Trash InDesign Preferences:

You can do this by launching ID and *immediately* hold down Shift-Control-Option-Command. If you do it correctly you'll get a dialog asking if you'd like to trash your ID prefs. Click OK.

BTW, same key combo works to trash Photoshop CS/Illustrator CS prefs at launch.

--- If you do the trash preference option – you will need to go through and reset your preferences (I know that sounds obvious, but you might want to take some screen shots of stuff if you've modified it much.)

Hope this helps.

In InDesign, PDFs are created from File>Export instead of from the Print dialog.

As I understand the original issue, the printshop needs to produce a postscript file, not a pdf. The print dialog has changed in Tiger, I think. In any event, in Tiger, choose "Print." In the Print dialog, choose the "Printer" button at the bottom. Pull down the "PDF" menu in the Printer dialog. Choose "Save PDF as Postscript." Result is a .ps file.

Somehow I was thinking PDF, not Postscript. Thanks for pointing that out. Remember too, that PDFs can always be turned into Postscript by printing from Preview, Adobe Reader, or Acrobat.

Thank you all for your help...I believe the save PDF as Postscript is what I'm looking for.
