I recently upgraded to CS and my 15" PBook is bogging down (1.25 GHz, stock 512 MB) and I see that damn beachball more than I like to. I need to run ID, PShop and Bridge minimally (sometimes adding IL). What are you folks operating on; did you toss in a 1G or two 512 chips? Any other suggestions for performance improvement?

I have 1.5GB on my PB17. I have PS2 set to take up to 1GB of ram, if needed.

Thanks for the quick reply Randman. I think I'll buy a 1GB chip and see how 1256 goes.

my understanding of Photoshop's ideal spec was you need 3 times available physical ram of the image size your working on. so file size = 30mb, you'll need 90mb free ram.

as always the more ram the better...

I'd recommend purchasing diskwarrior 3 as well. Despite what Apple or anyone tells you, when working with photoshop files.. using disk warrior to rebuild the directory structures (often monthly) will cure up the beachball when working with large files...

Makes a noticeable difference. Try it you'll see.
