Had my photos developed at a local photo place and got my usual set of prints and a CD of my photos scanned & digitized, like I always do. BUT this time, I copy the jpegs to my computer and after I open them and work on them, I can't save them.

I've tried to Save and Save as. Save goes through the motions but stops at the last minute, telling me the file is locked and I need to go to Get Info to unlock them... but the photo's icon does not indicate it is locked and when I try to unlock it, the check box if grayed out. And when I try to use Save As, the "Save" button is grayed out.

So far, I have only tried to use Photoshop CS. And this has not happened before, but recently the photo place changed ownership.

Any ideas?

Meanwhile, I am gonna go try Graphic Converter...

Contact the store and ask what format they are done at.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

Weirdly, when I try to put another file in the folder, it asks me to enter my password to "Authenticate"

gotta call the store later today...

I find that rather interesting. Please let us know the name of the store and what they told you.

Would you consider uploading one for us to review?

It's permissions. I get a lot of disks burned on Windows sytems and I always have to change permisions on the folders I copy off them so I can save or even move the files in them.

OK... well I'm at work now, the disk is home... but tonight I'll upload one of them, if I can... I use photobucket.com, but they limit uploads to 250kb... these are in the 700k range... do you have a choice of upload sites?

I'll also stop at the store on the way home. It's called Photoland on 8th Avenue in Manhattan, and it is, I believe, a solo store, not any kind of a chain...

duuuhhhh... since I am the only one who uses my Mac, I have never messed with "permissions." You are right about the Windows... I can see their computer at Photoland and it is Windows.

Select the folder once you copy it to the desktop and do a command "i" on it. If it says read only change it to read and write and them apply to inclosed items.

I'll try it when I get home... but I was able to copy it to my computer... or does that mean nothing?

You're free to switch to a less secure operating system if they bother you that much.

For me, and I imagine many others, security is not an issue...

And that is true until you get hacked or perhaps get a virus. At that point it would be everyone elses fault and not yours.

I've been using computers since 1974. To date I've had a computer hacked exactly 0 times.

I have never been hacked either, but that is because I acknowledge security and do not take it for granted.
