I know this is extremely simple but it's killing me and I'd like to find a solution so any help is really appreciated....

I'm importing text from a Word Document which is single spaced with a double space between paragraphs. When this text is imported into Quark, all text is converted to double spaced text. Oddly, if I delete the space after the last sentence in a paragraph, to bring the next paragraph closer, the next paragraph becomes entirely single spaced. I hope that makes sense.

I can't seem to find a way to apply single spacing to the entire document once it's been imported or prevent it from "double spacing everything" when it's importing the text.

Help!

In Formats, set both Leading and Space After to the same as your font size. (I usually find it's best to set leading a little higher, but you get the idea.) Leading controls line height, and Space After controls the margin between paragraphs. So there will be essentially no extra space between lines, but the height of one line of text between paragraphs.

That is weird. I don't have too much recent experience with DTP, but when I used to do magazine layout we would get the articles from the editors as Word files and we used something called MacLink. It would help retain all formatting into Quark (Quark had the Word filter, but the problem was primarily because the file was going from PC to Mac, so not sure if that would help you or not).

Help!
Open the Word doc and clear all formatting. Then re-import into Quark.
