Hi,
I'm designing a magazine and it's in the final stage so I brought it over to the client. We opened it on the mac, same version of quark it was built in, and most of the text is missing.
More specifically, the font used for headlines is completely missing. The text boxes are there but the text isn't.
When the doc is opened on another machine, everything appears OK so there must be some setting in Quark that is turned on or off to make it do this.
I appreciate any ideas...
*edit - the invisible text can be selected and the font info appears in the measurment palette but it's invisible.... help!

Sounds like you are missing fonts, or the other computer has a different version of the font. There are sometimes very small kerning and other changes that may appear to cause text to reflow.
In your case, check and see if the text boxes are so close to the live area of the text that it is simply pushing the text out of the box. You could test this by resizing the box and seeing if the text reappears when you make it much larger.
If not, did it warn you about missing fonts? Just my guess.

You're a little shy on details (ie. what version of Quark you're using) but I have a theory based on experience.
I'm assuming you're using Quark 6. If so, have you imported native PSD images into the Quark document? Answered yes? Then try replacing the PSDs with EPS or TIF versions of your art.
A few months back I had this exact problem with QX 6 files and that was the fix. IOW, the native PSD import functionality is bunk. Of course, it's foolish to pass along the native PSD files anyhow.

All Quark 'functionality' is bunk. Import, export, open, print, move, resize, undo, zoom... I could continue, but you all know this anyway.

thanks for the suggestions.
I'm using 6.5. When I opened the doc, there was a warning about missing fonts, which were already installed on the Mac but couldn't be found in the list of replacement fonts. I reinstalled the fonts and checked them in Font Book. Everything seemed in order and other programs such as AI and PS had access to the font that Quark did not.
After uninstalling, reinstalling, and messing with Font Book, it appears that Font Book was limiting access of the font in question... only in Quark. All other fonts in the doc would appear but one font would not. Very odd problem I've never seen with Font Book.
Thanks again for the input.
