Hi all, Sorry if I have posted this message in the wrong forum.

I have just finished writing my book, and is going to be self published.

I m in the process of designing the paperback. Could anyone recommend any good software that I can use to design the paperback?

Alternatively any volunteer out here in this forum to come with an offer

Any help or suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Regards

Goodman

Pages. You can even download pre-set templates for books.

Well, seeing as this is a Mac forum, folks are likely to suggest Mac software.

Give these folks a look, though: http://www.pabd.com/

They can help with the layout, as well as helping with the self-publishing bit, I think.

I would say don't design the cover yourself. You did the writing, you're a writer. Let a designer do the designing. There are certain thing you need to know about ISBN, margins, binding, bleeds, resolution, etc. You should leave it to an expert.

Thank you Kerivit, for your advice. This is a self published book, without ISBN. The printer has offered to design the paperback, the design he came out it was not very professional, and that is why I decided to give a try my self.

He is still trying to get it done, but it is taking him ages. I know inside me if I can get the right software I could do it better.

Alright, I'll give you that much. At least you tried to have someone else design it, but apparently not the best choice. Let's see, page layout for the PC... since I refuse to recommend MS products (working at a printing company myself- they are a nightmare). I'm gonna say InDesign. You're gonna say it's too expensive. So basically the discussion will be over.

Hi Kerivit, did you mean Adobe InDesign Application or something else? sorry I did not understand it quite well.

Yes, Adobe InDesign. You asked for software correct?

I think what KeriVit is saying is: it's not the software that's going to help you design; it's a designer. Give me a copy of Microsoft Word and I'm a novelist? No, don't think so; it doesn't work that way. Give it a shot if you must, but it's not for the meek or non-specialist.
