I am trying to make a certain effect in Illustrator. Basically, I want to Warp the type that has been outlined and the use this as a clipping mask over a raster image, either in PS or Illy.

However, I am unable to make this an independent shape. PS does not allow me to copy or drag the warped type in... it says "the specified format is not in the edition."

If I bring the photo into Illy- it will not allow me to make a clipping mask with my warped shape.

What am I missing? Is there another solution?

Or am I making no sense at all?

"Expand Appearance" on the warped shape first, then you should be able to use it as a mask.

Don't have it in front of me atm, but I think it's "Object/Expand Appearance..."

Thank you, that did work, but FYI to anyone. You cannot Expand Appearance on a Warp Made with the Envelope- you must warp it using Filter>Arc
