Is there a way to extract tiffs that are placed in a Illustrator file besides exporting the file as a psd/tiff? I can't seem to find any info anywhere but i think there's gotta be a way.
Also, is there a way to find out what the resolution is of a placed tiff? reason I ask is because sometimes it's a dithered bitmap tif, and if you export it as a tiff, you need to specify a resolution and if it's not exact, the dithered pattern isn't going to be as smooth as the way it is in IA.
thanks for any help!

If you save as a PDF you can open in Acrobat and use the extract images command.

To get the resolution info, go to the Window menu, select Document Info. Click the little triangle and select Embedded or Linked Images, whichever you have in your file. Then select your image and all the info pops up in the window.
If you save it as a .pdf, Photoshop will import the image (using Import/PDF Image I think) at it's native resolution. I don't know if it works with muliple placed images, I've only done it with a file that only had 1 placed image. The file I did it with had an embedded image that was too big to use the Export/TIF command - so it's pretty handy.

When you go to Photoshop and do Import PDF Image, if the file has more than on image it lets you select which image to import.
This is the best way, IMHO, to get an embedded image out of an Illustrator file.

Or you could just copy the image in Illustrator, go back to Photoshop, create a new image and hit paste. It should be at it's native size.
